West Virginia University School of Nursing

West Virginia University’s School of Nursing offers Registered Nurses (RN) multiple pathways to a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree. They offer an RN to MSN pathway as well as a traditional MSN pathway.

The RN to MSN pathway is designed for nurses who hold an Associate’s degree in nursing. The program can be completed in eight semesters of full-time study. Students in the accelerated program first earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree and then progress into the MSN coursework. The program is delivered primarily only, but does require some on campus sessions for the MSN portion.

MSN programs are available to prepare nurses for the following roles and specializations:

  • Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
  • Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
  • Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner
  • Nursing Leadership

Applicants to the RN to MSN program are required to hold an Associate’s degree in nursing from a nationally accredited program with a cumulative overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Students are required to submit official scores for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). They must hold an unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse.

Applicants entering via the traditional BSN to MSN pathway are required to hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from an NLNAC/ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program with a cumulative overall GPA of 3.0 on all college work attempted. Students must have completed courses in Statistics and Health Assessment with grades of “C” or better. They must submit GRE or Miller Analogies Test (MAT) scores. Candidates should hold a current unrestricted license as an RN in at least one state.

West Virginia Wesleyan CollegeDepartment of Nursing

The Department of Nursing at West Virginia Wesleyan College offers a Master of Science in Nursing degree in variety of specialty areas. Students can choose from MSN programs that prepare them for the following roles and specializations:

  • Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

They also offer an MSN/MBA dual degree program.

Applicants seeking entry to an MSN program must hold a BSN from an accredited program. They should have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on all previous college coursework. Students must hold a current unencumbered RN license. Those seeking entry to the MSN/MBA dual degree program must submit Graduate Management Assessment Test (GMAT) scores.

Wheeling Jesuit University Department of Nursing

Multiple pathways to a Master of Science in Nursing degree are offered through the Department of Nursing at Wheeling Jesuit University. Wheeling offers an RN to MSN pathway in addition to the traditional BSN to MSN pathway.

The RN to MSN pathway is designed for diploma and Associate’s prepared nurses. The accelerated program allows students to complete up to five graduate courses that can be applied to both the BSN to MSN degrees. Both degrees are awarded for those completing the program.

MSN programs offered prepare nurses for the following roles/specializations:

  • Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Nursing Administration
  • Nursing Education Specialist

Applicants to the RN to MSN program must have either a diploma or Associate’s degree in nursing. They must be licensed as a Registered Nurse.

Applicants to the BSN to MSN programs must hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. They must hold current licensure as an RN.
