Fort Hays State University Department of Nursing

Fort Hays State University’s Department of Nursing offers two Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree programs. They offer MSN programs to prepare Registered Nurses (RNs) in the following roles/specializations:

  • Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Nursing Administration
  • Nursing Education

Applicants to the above MSN programs must hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from a nationally (NLNAC/ACEN or CCNE) accredited nursing program. They must have an undergraduate nursing degree grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Students must have completed undergraduate courses in Statistics, Health Assessment, and Pathophysiology with grades of “B” or better. Candidates are required to submit Miller Analogies Test (MAT) scores with a scaled score of at least 376. They must hold a current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the U.S.

Those RNs entering the Family Nurse Practitioner program must meet additional requirements. They must have a Kansas RN license that is current and in good standing as well as hold and maintain a current ACLS certification. Candidates must have 2080 hours of clinical practice experience as a Registered Nurse.

MidAmerica Nazarene University School of Nursing and Health Science

MidAmerica Nazarene University’s School of Nursing and Health Science offers multiple pathways to a Master of Science in Nursing degree. Both RN to MSN and BSN to MSN pathways are available.

The RN to MSN pathway is an accelerated program designed for diploma and Associate’s prepared Registered Nurses. RNs can complete both their BSN and MSN degrees at their own pace in as little as 26 months.

MSN programs are available to prepare nurses for a variety of roles and specializations including the following:

  • Public Health Nursing (Concentrations available in School Nursing, Infectious Disease Control, and Occupational Health)
  • Healthcare Quality Management
  • Healthcare Administration
  • Nursing Education

Applicants to the RN to MSN program must hold a diploma or Associate’s degree in nursing and have completed all general education requirements for a Bachelor’s degree. Their GPA must be at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. They must be a Registered Nurse with a current RN license.

Applicants to the BSN to MSN program must hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree with a 3.0 or higher GPA on a 4.0 scale. They must have completed an undergraduate course in Statistics. Candidates must have an active unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse.

Pittsburg State University Irene Ransom Bradley School of Nursing

Pittsburg State University’s Irene Ransom Bradley School of Nursing offers a Master of Science in Nursing degree. The program prepares Registered Nurses as Family Nurse Practitioners.

Applicants to the MSN program are required to hold a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a nationally accredited program with an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Others with GPAs below 3.0 but at least 2.7 may be admitted if space is available. Students must have completed undergraduate courses in Nursing Research, Physical assessment, and Statistics. Candidates must hold a current Kansas RN license and current Basic Life Support certification.

University of Kansas Medical CenterSchool of Nursing

The School of Nursing at the University of Kansas Medical Center offers a Master of Science in Nursing program. The program requires between 37 and 41 credit hours for completion depending on the specialization chosen.

Students can choose from the following functional specializations:

Washburn University of Topeka School of Nursing

The School of Nursing at Washburn University of Topeka offers a Master of Science in Nursing degree. MSN programs are offered in three specialties:

  • Adult Nurse Practitioner
  • Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Clinical Nurse Leader

The programs can be completed on either a full-time or part-time basis. The Adult and Family Nurse Practitioner programs can be completed in 45-47 and 48-50 credit hours, respectively. They can be completed in 2.5 or 3.5 years of full-time or part-time enrollment, respectively. The Clinical Nurse Leader program requires 36 credit hours for completion.

Applicants to the program are required to hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree with a 3.0 GPA in all nursing coursework. Students must have completed a graduate level course in Statistics. Candidates must hold current licensure in Kansas as a Registered Nurse.

Wichita State University School of Nursing

Wichita State University’s School of Nursing offers two pathways to a Master of Science in Nursing degree: an RN to MSN pathway and a BSN to MSN pathway.

The RN to MSN program is designed for diploma and Associate’s prepared Registered Nurses. It combines the RN to BSN and BSN to MSN curriculum into one and accelerates the time required to earn both degrees.

MSN programs are offered to prepare RNs in the following roles/specialty areas:

  • Nurse Educator
  • Nurse Leadership and Management

Applicants entering via the RN to MSN program are required to hold a diploma or Associate’s degree in nursing. They must have a 3.25 or higher GPA at the time of admission which must be maintained throughout the BSN and MSN programs. They must hold a license as an RN in the U.S.

Applicants entering the BSN to MSN program must hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an NLNAC/ACEN or CCNE accredited program with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher in the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework. They must hold a license as an RN in the U.S. or one of its territories with at least one year of nursing practice post-licensure preferred.
