Coppin State University’s Helene Fuld School of Nursing offers a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program for Registered Nurses (RNs). The program prepares students as a Family Nurse Practitioner and requires 48-51 credit hours to complete.
Applicants are required to hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree with an undergraduate cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Those with lower GPAs will be considered for provisional acceptance. Students must have successfully completed a course in Statistics. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores must be submitted. Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing
The School of Nursing at Johns Hopkins University offers a wide variety of Master of Science in Nursing programs. They offer MSN programs in the following roles and specializations:

They must have or obtain a Maryland RN license for matriculation. Those entering the Adult-Geriatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program will be required to either have direct care experience in an acute care setting or attend part-time for the first year while they work full-time in a critical care unit.

Multiple pathways to a Master of Science in Nursing degree are offered through the Department of Nursing at Salisbury University. Both an RN to MSN pathway and a traditional BSN to MSN pathway are available
The RN to MSN pathway is designed for diploma or Associate’s prepared Registered Nurses who may or may not also hold a Bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing discipline. Students complete certain general education and nursing prerequisite courses before progressing into the graduate level courses.
Regardless of pathway, students in the MSN program can choose between the following roles/specializations:
- Clinical Nurse Educator
- Health Care Leadership
Applicants to the program must hold a diploma or Associate’s degree in Nursing. Before applying to the program, students must have completed all non-nursing prerequisite courses and 12 of the 18 hours of required undergraduate nursing curriculum with at least a 2.75 GPA. Candidates must hold current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland or one of the compact states.
Applicants entering via the BSN to MSN pathway are required to hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a nationally accredited program with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. They must hold current and active licensure as a Registered Nurse in the U.S. Students must have a current CPR certification for healthcare providers.

University of Maryland School of Nursing
Multiple pathways to a Master of Science in Nursing degree are offered through the School of Nursing at the University of Maryland. They offer a Direct Entry pathway, an RN to MSN pathway, and a traditional BSN to MSN pathway.
The Direct Entry pathway is designed for students with a non-nursing Bachelor’s degree who would like to enter the field of nursing. The program requires four semesters plus either one or two summer sessions. It prepares students for the NCLEX examination to gain licensure as a Registered Nurse. Students specialize as a Clinical Nurse Leader, an advanced generalist nurse.
The RN to MSN pathway allows diploma and Associate’s prepared Registered Nurses to earn both a BSN and MSN degree. RNs in the program specialize in Health Services Leadership and Management. The program is offered on a part-time and full-time basis.
Those entering via the BSN to MSN pathway can choose from the following specializations:
- Community/Public Health Nursing
- Health Services Leadership and Management
- Nursing Informatics
Applicants to the Direct Entry program are required to hold a Bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing discipline with both overall cumulative and science GPAs of 3.0 or higher.
Applicants to the RN to MSN program must hold a diploma or Associate’s degree in nursing. They may or may not also hold a Bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing discipline. They must hold a 3.0 overall GPA as well as a 3.0 science GPA on all previous college coursework. They must hold a license as an RN in Maryland or one of the compact states.
Applicants to the BSN to MSN program must hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an NLNAC/ACEN or CCNE accredited college or university with an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Students must hold an active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the U.S. They must have an active Maryland RN license for clinical experiences.
