Eastern Michigan UniversitySchool of Nursing

The School of Nursing at Eastern Michigan University offers a Master of Science in Nursing degree to Bachelor’s prepared Registered Nurses. Students earn an MSN and are prepared to take the national certification exam to qualify as an Adult-Gerontology Clinical Nurse Specialist. Students can also select one of four concentrations: Teaching in Health Care Systems, Quality Improvement in Health Care Systems, Gerontology, and Individualized Study.

Admission to the MSN program requires a BSN degree. RNs with a Bachelor’s in another discipline can apply for conditional admission status. They must have at least a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (those seeking conditional admission must have at least a 2.75 GPA). They must have successfully completed undergraduate Statistics and Health Assessment courses. They must also have completed an undergraduate Community Health Nursing course and clinical from an accredited institution. RNs with only a non-nursing Bachelors will be required to either take two Community Health Nursing courses (NURS 450 & 451) or demonstrate equivalency by completing the Community Health ATI exam. Candidates must hold a current unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Michigan or be eligible for Michigan licensure as an RN.

Ferris State UniversitySchool of Nursing

RNs considering a Master of Science in Nursing degree are offered two pathways by Ferris State University’s School of Nursing. Ferris State offers both an RN to MSN pathway and a traditional BSN to MSN pathway.

Diploma or Associate’s prepared RNs can enter the MSN program via the RN to MSN Accelerated Track if they have been admitted to the RN to BSN Completion Program. Once admitted to the RN to BSN program, students complete a series of bridge courses for which they must maintain a 3.0 GPA. At the beginning of the last semester of the bridge coursework, they can apply to the MSN program.

Grand Valley State UniversityKirkhof College of Nursing

Michigan State University College of Nursing

Michigan State University’s College of Nursing offers a Master of Science in Education degree to prepare Advanced Practice Registered Nurses in several specializations/roles including the following:

Northern Michigan University School of Nursing

Oakland University School of Nursing

Multiple pathways to a Master of Science in Nursing degree are offered by Oakland University’s School of Nursing. They offer an RN to BSN Degree Completion pathway in addition to the traditional BSN to MSN pathway.

The RN to MSN Degree Completion pathway accelerates the time it takes for diploma or Associate’s prepared RNs to earn both BSN and MSN degrees. Students accepted to the RN to MSN program are allowed to take two graduate level courses while still an undergraduate and pay undergraduate tuition rates for them. Students in the RN to MSN program can pursue the Adult/Gerontological Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner MSN degree.

Those pursuing a Master’s in nursing via the BSN to MSN pathway can choose from three roles/specializations:

Those applying to the RN to MSN Degree Completion program must have earned a diploma or Associate’s degree in nursing with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher and been accepted to the RN to BSN program. They must have completed the following courses with at least a 3.0 GPA: Clinical Anatomy and Physiology, Introduction to Human Microbiology, Introduction to Chemical Principles, Organic and Biological Chemistry, Composition II, Conceptual Foundations of Practice, and Health Promotion in the Community.

Those pursuing an Master’s in nursing via the BSN to MSN pathway must hold at least a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from a nationally accredited nursing program. Students must have successfully completed a course in Physical Assessment. Those with a GPA of less than 3.2 are required to submit GRE scores. Applicants must be eligible for a current RN license in their state of practice.

Saginaw Valley State University Crystal M. Lange College of Health & Human Services

Saginaw Valley State University’s Crystal M. Lange College of Health & Human Services offers two pathways to a Master of Science in Nursing degree: an RN to MSN pathway and a BSN to MSN pathway.

The RN to MSN pathway was designed to afford those with only a diploma or Associate’s degree in nursing an opportunity to be admitted to the MSN program.
