Husson University’s School of Nursing offers multiple pathways to a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree degree. They offer a traditional MSN pathway as well as an RN to MSN pathway for those RNs whose Bachelor’s degree is in a non-nursing discipline.

Registered Nurses (RNs) can choose from the following specializations:

Saint Joseph’s College of Maine Department of Nursing

The Department of Nursing at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine offers several options for nurses seeking an online Master of Science in Nursing degree program. They offer a traditional BSN to MSN pathway as well as an RN to MSN pathway for those nurses with a diploma or Associate’s degree in nursing who also hold a non-nursing Bachelor’s degree.

Saint Joseph’s offers MSN programs in the following specializations:

University of Maine School of Nursing

The University of Maine’s School of Nursing offers multiple pathways to a Master of Science in Nursing degree. They offer an RN to MSN pathway and a BSN to MSN pathway.

The RN to MSN pathway is designed for diploma or Associate’s prepared RNs. The program is available on both a full-time or part-time basis. The accelerated program allows students to take nine credit hours of graduate work to complete their BSN. Both BSN and MSN degrees are awarded.

The University of Maine’s MSN program prepares Registered Nurses as Family Nurse Practitioners. Students are also allowed to create an individualized MSN program to prepare them for other roles such as Nurse Educators, Nurse Administrators, and more.

Applicants entering via the RN to MSN program must hold a diploma or Associate’s degree in nursing. Students must have completed a series of prerequisite general education and science classes prior to admission. Students must be licensed as an RN in Maine.

Applicants entering via the BSN to MSN pathway are required to have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from an NLNAC/ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 higher. They must have completed undergraduate courses in Health Assessment and Statistics with grades of “B” or higher. Students must submit satisfactory GRE or MAT scores. Candidates must hold current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Maine.

University of Southern Maine School of Nursing

Three pathways to a Master of Science in Nursing degree are offered by the School of Nursing at the University of Southern Maine. Those offered include a Direct Entry pathway, an RN to MSN pathway, and a BSN to MSN pathway.

The Direct Entry program is designed for students with no nursing background who hold a Bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing discipline. The three year full-time study program first prepares students to take the NCLEX-RN to become licensed as an RN. Then students progress into the MSN curriculum.

The RN to MSN program is designed for Registered Nurses who hold a diploma or Associate’s degree in nursing. Students complete required junior and senior undergraduate nursing courses before progressing into the graduate MSN coursework.

MSN students can choose from the following specializations:

  • Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Family Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Students seeking admission via the Direct Entry MSN pathway should hold a non-nursing Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Students must have completed an undergraduate course in Statistics with a grade of “B” or higher. Acceptable scores on the MAT or GRE must be submitted.

Those seeking entry via the RN to MSN pathway are required to have a diploma or Associate’s degree in nursing from a nationally accredited program with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. They must have completed undergraduate courses in Statistics and Health Assessment. Students are required to submit GRE or MAT scores. They must hold an current unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Maine.

Students entering via the BSN to MSN pathway are required to hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from a CCNE or NLNAC/ACEN accredited program with an undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Students must have successfully completed an undergraduate Statistics course as well as a course in Health Assessment. GRE or MAT scores are required. Applicants must provide proof of an unencumbered current Maine RN license.
