Rhode Island College School of Nursing

Rhode Island College’s School of Nursing offers Registered Nurses (RNs) several Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree programs. Programs are available in the following areas of specialization:

Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an NLNAC/ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program. A minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is required. They must have completed a course in Statistics with at least a grade of “C”. Students must submit competitive scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT). Candidates are required to hold current unrestricted licensures to practice as an RN in Rhode Island.

University of Rhode Island College of Nursing

The College of Nursing at the University of Rhode Island offers a variety of Master of Science in Nursing programs. The programs are available on both a full-time and part-time basis.

The MSN degree programs are available to prepare RNs for the following roles/areas of specialization:

  • Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner/Clinical Nurse Specialist
  • Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Nursing Administration
  • Nursing Education
  • Nursing Executive

Applicants should have a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an NLNAC/ACEN or CCNE accredited program. RNs who hold a diploma or Associate’s degree in nursing as well as a non-nursing Bachelor’s degree will be considered on a case-by-case basis (i.e. an RN to MSN pathway). Students must have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher. They must submit competitive scores on either the MAT or GRE. Candidates must have completed a basic course in Statistics. They should hold a current license as a Registered Nurse. If not licensed in Rhode Island, they should be eligible for licensures in Rhode Island. Certain specializations require clinical nursing experience as an RN, some in specific settings.
