University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Nursing

The School of Nursing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas offers two Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) programs. MSN programs are offered to prepare Registered Nurses (RNs) for the following roles/specializations:

  • Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Nurse Educator

The programs are offered on both a full-time and part-time basis. The coursework is delivered primarily online though some on campus sessions are required.

Applicants to the program must hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a nationally (NLNAC/ACEN or CCNE) accredited nursing program. Students must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on all undergraduate coursework or a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the last two years of undergraduate nursing coursework. They must have completed undergraduate courses in Nursing Research, Physical Assessment, and Statistics with grades of “C” or better. They must have completed a graduate level Statistics course within five years prior to matriculating into the MSN coursework with a grade of “B” or higher. Candidates must hold a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in their state of residence.

University of Nevada, Reno Orvis School of Nursing

The Orvis School of Nursing at the University of Nevada, Reno offers several Master of Science in Nursing degree programs. MSN programs are available to prepare nurses for advanced practice, educator, and leadership roles. Programs are offered in the following specialty areas:

  • Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner
  • Clinical Nurse Leader
  • Family Nurse Practitioner
  • Nurse Educator

They also offer an MSN/Master of Public Health dual degree program.

Applicants seeking admission must hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from a CCNE or NLNAC/ACEN accredited academic institution with a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. They must have successfully completed a graduate level Statistics course. Students must hold a current unrestricted license to practice as an RN in Nevada. Those applying to the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner program are required to have at least three years of experience in an acute care setting or two years of experience in a critical care setting.
